Georgia’s Youth…
Georgians receives news concerning their youths on a daily basis, including data on high dropout rates, substance abuse, unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, gang activities, and violent crimes. These issues are well-documented by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Georgia Department of Public Health. Many community advocates believe that young people are influenced by their surroundings. This concept can have positive implications as well. When certain factors like mentors, technology resources, equitable policies, parenting classes, and smaller class sizes are present, our youth can thrive. To improve the lives of underserved Georgians youth, it is crucial for stakeholders to support innovative programs that empower them to overcome socio-economic challenges and succeed in their communities and classrooms. Although Georgia has numerous youth programs, the 2,339 currently available are still insufficient to help all nine million young Georgians realize their full potential.
